Abstract

In this study, a solar photovoltaic/photo-thermal (PV/T) tube-plate type collector with new construction was proposed,in order to improve the overall utilization efficiency of solar energy. The photoelectric conversion and heat transfer process of the collector was analyzed and a two-dimensional non-steady state energy conversion model was developed. The reliability of the model was verified. Based on that, the effects of design parameters, including the height of the air channel and the air flow rate, on the performance of the PV/T collector were studied. The simulation results indicated that the best performance of the PV/T collector was achieved when the air flow channel height was set to 15 mm. Under the simulation conditions, the overall efficiency of the collector is about 0.84-0.87.
